Licensed Clinical Social Worker

As a therapist, I hope to provide a safe haven where clients can express themselves without judgment.   I believe it takes strength and courage to seek therapy and ask for help.  I hope to provide my clients with unconditional support and guidance as they become more empowered and mindful human beings.  Through trust, empathy, and understanding, we can work together to become more self aware.  Truly understanding ourselves and our emotions can help us to open the doors to self acceptance.  We all struggle at times, and I am here to help you cope and work through the many obstacles and challenges we face in our lives.

My Background

I am a psychotherapist and Licensed Independent Social Worker in clinical practice.   I have been a practicing social worker for over 13 years and have worked with individuals, children, families, and groups in a variety of settings.  I have experience working with mental illness; trauma and violence; adolescent behavioral issues; and the GLBT community.  I have worked in various children’s homes with at-risk youth and at the Department of Mental Health.  I have also taught as an adjunct professor in the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina.  I specialize in counseling for eating disorders, depression, anxiety, stress management, behavior problems, sexual orientation, loss and grief (including pet loss), family dynamics, obsessive compulsive disorders, and relationships.

I use a variety of counseling techniques including Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, the Strengths Perspective, and Client-Centered therapy.  By using these techniques, I help the client develop a sense of self and empowerment which can guide them to see how their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are being negatively influenced.
